Hardeep Singh Ghuman is a retired Infantry Officer of the Indian Army. Born to parents whose roots lay in Sialkot, now in Pakistan, he represents the third generation of soldiers in his family and takes immense pride in being the father of a fourth-generation Army officer. He served for over two decades, including 14 years in dangerous operational and conflict zones across some of India's most demanding theatres. His Military career exposed him to the realities of High Altitude Warfare, Glaciated Terrain, Counter Insurgency Operations and the countless challenges that accompany a soldier's profession. Among these experiences, his two tenures on the Siachen Glacier remain the most defining, leaving an enduring impression.
A firm believer in discipline, duty and compassion, he has long held that the true soldier understands the value of peace better than anyone else. In the words of General Douglas MacArthur: "The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war." That conviction finds quiet expression throughout his writing. His literary work is inspired by places he has served, people he has known and experiences he has lived.
